Ringing in the New Year - plans and perspectives

Updated: Jan 2, 2020

I‘m welcoming in the New Year with true doula style currently in the case room waiting on my first baby of 2020.

This year has been a wild and beautiful ride. Even though I have been practicing for 10 years, I am still learning new things and being challenged in my expectations of birth. You would think after 10 years, I could predict with great accuracy how a birth will go. However, 2019 has taught me that nothing in the experience of birth can or should be expected. My advice: Your plans should only be a “vision” and not set in stone or limited to one set of outcomes. Plan for the unexpected, plan for all possibilities, plan to be challenged beyond what you ever thought you could achieve.

In 2019, I‘ve expanded my knowledge base by taking the Spinning Babies Parent Educator training,

Doula Training Canada birth doula certification, embarked on my Baby Led Sleep coach and Birth Photography certification and I have just decided to start my pathway work to becoming an IBCLC ( International Board Certified Lactaction Consultant )👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 . Our region doesn’t have many independently practicing IBCLCs, and I really feel I could help my clients much more with some of the more complex breastfeeding issues if I had this training.

So here’s to 2020, heading into it with my heart and mind wide open. Thank you to the 32 beautiful families I have supported in 2019, for trusting in me to provide support and guidance during such an important milestone of their lives.
